Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take puppies?
Puppies are welcome after 10 weeks of age, provided that they have had their first wellness exam, had a fecal test that is negative for parasites, ovas and giardia, and received their second series of DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Para influenza, Parvovirus) vaccinations as well as Bordetella. Puppies younger than 24 weeks will be introduced to other puppies and will be considered part of the puppy socialization program.
Are puppies exempt from vaccinations?
No, all puppies must be vaccinated for Kennel Cough (Bordetella) at least 12 days prior to attending RnT. By law, all puppies must have received their second shot in the series of DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Para influenza, Parvovirus) vaccinations and have follow up vaccinations scheduled. By 6 months of age all dogs must have a Rabies vaccination.
Playcare
I don’t want my older dog to play too much; what should we do?
Just let us know. At RnT, our dogs will always be placed in groups with similar temperaments. During the day all dogs have time when they will be able to relax and receive cuddles while remaining apart from the other play spaces.
What happens if my dog doesn’t pass your evaluation?
It means that your dog’s temperament or play style isn’t suitable for dog daycare within the Ruff ‘n Tumble environment. Not every dog has fun at daycare and not every dog welcomes that kind of group play. If we think your dog is close, but not quite suitable, we may recommend that you consider additional training or socialization and then be re-evaluated with us in a few months. We have a great article that we encourage everyone to read before starting daycare My Dog Got Kicked Out of Daycare Today
Does my dog have to be spayed or neutered?
Yes, all dogs here for daycare and overnights must be spayed or neutered by the time they are 6 months old.
Where do the dogs go to potty?
We have a 3,000-square foot of outdoor space …and the dogs are out there several times a day. If your dog has an accident on the play floor, we immediately clean it up and disinfect the area.
Will my dog no longer be housebroken if she comes to doggy daycare?
That’s highly unlikely. Dogs are very smart when it comes to getting acclimated to a new environment. They adapt quickly and learn where it’s okay and not okay to go potty while at playcare. That doesn’t mean that their habits at home will change.
Why do the dogs have to take naps?
Could you imagine jogging, riding a bike, and running up and down steps for 10 hours straight without any downtime? That’s what daycare play is like for your dog. A good nap enables their bodies to rest and it helps us keep everybody’s excitement level under control.
What happens if I can’t get there in time to pick up my dog?
After 6:30 PM closing (and 5:00 PM on the weekend) you can still pick up your dog and an after-hours surcharge will apply. If you notify us ahead of time that you’ve got a late schedule, we’ll work with you on a pick-up time and appropriate fee.
If I’m stuck in traffic can I call you to say I may be late in picking up my dog?
Certainly let us know what time to expect you. We may apply a surcharge, however, if staff is required to stay longer.
I need to get to an early meeting; can I drop my dog off early?
Let us know ahead of time and we can make arrangements for someone to be here for an early drop off for a small surcharge.
If I come more often than I thought I would can I switch to a bigger discounted pass?
Yes, we will gladly discuss the path to upgrade your package so that you don’t lose any benefit.
What happens if the dogs fight?
Safety of the dogs is our top priority and our staff is trained to watch for signs of aggression. We observe body language, accelerated activity that might lead to tussles, and each dogs reactivity to another. Fights are rare, but if one occurs our staff is trained to separate the dogs. If there is an injury we tend to it immediately and notify the owners of all dogs involved.
Sleepovers
What is "Membership Boarding" and how do I become a member?
We are primarily a daycare that offers boarding as a convenience for our “active” daycare members only. We have very limited boarding available and it is exclusively utilized by our “active” daycare clients. Due to our size and structure, boarding dogs must be able to participate in our daycare. For that reason we require our overnight boarders to be daycare clients. Minimum requirements and a trial overnight will apply
Why do I have to be a daycare customer if I want to board my dog?
In the canine world, dogs do best with what’s familiar, and they get stressed by new and different. That’s why dogs have lots of fun playing with friends that they regularly see in their daycare play groups, and they have less fun when new and unfamiliar dogs enter the group or when they themselves are the new dogs entering the group. For safety’s sake and to reduce stress in the environment, we don’t accept dogs that would come only for boarding during holidays or vacations.
My dog takes medicine. Can you give them to him?
Yes, of course! Just make sure we have written instructions for administering the medication and it must be in the original container. Additional fees may apply
What are the drop-off and pick-up times for sleepovers?
Drop-offs for overnights can occur any time between 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM Monday – Friday and 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM on Saturday. There are no drop-off on Sundays. We require that you bring your dog in early so they can have some good play time and get tired out before spending a night with us. And you don’t pay any more for that. Check outs are by 8:30 AM, Monday – Friday and 9:00 AM on Saturday. On Sunday morning you may pick your dog up between 8:00 and 9:00am or 3:00-5:00pm only. If your dog stays beyond the morning pick-up time you pay for daycare for that day.
Can I bring my dog’s favorite toys and bedding?
Yes, but please write your dog’s name on the toy with an indelible marker. All beds larger than the small plush kind (for 10-20 lb dogs) must have a removable cover that can go into the washing machine.
When we pay for boarding does that include play time during the day?
Yes, the overnight fee includes playcare during the entire stay up until 8:30 AM the day you check out. Day care fees apply after 8:30 AM on your last day.
I feed my dog a raw diet. May I bring that?
We don’t accept raw food due to concern about bacteria where we store and prepare food for all of the dogs. We’ve found that most customers who use raw can substitute a freeze dried alternative and their dog will do well with that.
What if I forget to bring food for the overnights?
We always ask what brand and protein (beef, chicken, fish) you feed and we will purchase the food (or a similar substitute) for you and pass along the cost. We will have a good quality food from Fromm available at a per meal rate.
Can I apply my daycare package days to boarding time?
No. That’s because we have a very generous policy when it comes to dropping off and picking up for boarding, and boarding / play time is already deeply discounted. Therefore, daycare package rates can’t be applied to the boarding days nor used to extend boarding time into another day. If you can’t make the 8:30 AM checkout, then a daycare fee is added to your stay.
Do you give tours of the facility?
For liability reason we can not allow people in areas when or where the dogs are playing. There is a video on our website showing a tour of the facility as seen by a couple of our staff dogs. We’ll also be happy to show you some of the areas where the dogs are not playing provided that you call us ahead of time to ensure that someone will be available to give you a tour and that dogs are not left unattended. For the well being of the dogs, tours are not offered during nap time (noon to 2:00 PM daily) or during busy drop-off times 6:30-9AM and pick-up times 4:30-6:30PM.
What kind of experience do the employees have who take care of the dogs?
Most or all workers already have hands-on experience working with dogs. Of course, we’re all dog people, but being a dog lover is not enough to land a job Ruff ‘n Tumble. Our staff members include trainers, vet techs and vet tech students, and experienced shelter or humane organization workers. Everyone goes through a rigorous canine behavior and canine body language course of study that begins immediately after hiring. And new staff members shadow experienced team leads for numerous shifts before they’re permitted to run their own playroom. All employees will be certified in Canine First Aid and CPR.
How often do you clean the facilities?
We have a strict cleaning protocol that calls for daily cleaning and disinfecting of all play and overnight spaces. During play activity all dog waste is immediately cleaned up, and the point of elimination is cleaned with enzymes. Food bowls, water bowls and toys are sanitized daily. If your boarded dog messes their space, we promptly clean it and launder any soiled bedding or belongings.
Do you have a veterinarian on staff?
We are affiliated with two local veterinary clinics, just minutes away from our building. Should an emergency arise, these doctors will work with us.
